Globe suspends data cap in "Fair Use Policy" to compete with Smart's Free Internet Access

Globe has finally suspended the 800 Mb data cap in their "Fair Use Policy" effective today to compete with Smart's new Free Internet promotion.

Smart said Friday that they would be offering a 30 Mb free internet access to all their prepaid subscribers, personally announced by Smart and PLDT chairman and CEO Manny Pangilinan.

In a panicked and sudden press conference today, Globe Telecommunications Inc. SVP Yoly Crisanto told The Filipino Garlic along with members of the media that they are finally making their internet access "truly 'unlimited'" to their internet subscribers.

"We learned a lot from our customers, (and) we were given insights on their digital preferences and lifestyles. We learned that the data cap in our Fair use Policy is restricting the freedom of our beloved Globe subscribers and thus, effective immediately, we are suspending said data cap," Crisanto said.

When asked if this data cap suspension is in response to Smart's Free Internet promotion, Crisanto replied with a firmly shaking head and muttered "No."

"We have planned to do this all along. We have all the market research and stuff. Blogs were calling out for us to suspend the data cap. If you check our Facebook account, you could see our subscribers complaining about our service. So we suspended it. I mean, yeah we suck as a service provider. But you still stick with us. We're doing you a favor. As simple as that."

She also added that Globe isn't threatened by this promotion. "Come on guys. We gave you free Facebook! That counts for something right?" she asked.

Members of cellphone consumer protection group TXTPower from the audience booed the statement. "Kung di pa kayo kakalabanin, aabusuhin niyo pa rin kami. Unlimited mo mukha mo. Psssh. (If you didn't have competitiom, you would still abuse us. Unlimited my ass. Psssh)"

"Please don't leave Globe! I beg you!" Crisanto said hysterically, before being escorted away by security.

This news article is a satire. How I wish it wasn't the case. :(
