Duterte Fan Group Counters With Petition to Shut Down Rappler, ABS-CBN, Inquirer
MANILA, Philippines - A Change.org petition is currently circulating on the internet asking social media network Facebook to shut down the Pages of "biased media" Rappler, ABS-CBN, and Inquirer.
The petition was started by Charles Robert Coloma, the president of Dutertenatics Manila Chapter, a local fan group of President Rodrigo Duterte Supporters.
As of press time, the petition has garnered 1,940 signatures from co-Duterte fans.
The petition says that the aforementioned news media outlets are "perpetuating lies through their smear campaign against President Duterte, these media outlets violate the Journalist's Code of Ethics no. 1."
The first of the Journalist's Code of Ethics states that a journalist "shall scrupulously report and interpret the news, taking care not to suppress essential facts nor to distort the truth by omission or improper emphasis" and "recognize the duty to air the other side and to correct substantive errors promptly."
According to Coloma, who apparently think that legitimate criticism against the government automatically means it is biased, they cherry pick items, quotes, and facts that would suit the political party they support in order to mislead the readers into thinking ill of the current administration.
"This is equivalent to spreading panic, fear, and misinformation and should never be tolerated. They have been doing this since then-Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte declared his intention to run for the presidency. They continuously publish deliberately misleading and/or incomplete news up to now."
The Filipino Garlic reached out to Coloma to ask him if Mocha Uson is also liable for misleading news but he refused to answer, calling us "biased" too.

ReplyDeleteNews articles from Main Stream media that are clearly biased are not crisiciscms. Journalism is supposed to portray both sides of the equation, not dwell on a single side of the story. Ano pa pinagkaiba nila sa Social Media trolls kung ganun din klase ng mga balita nila, eh di wala. The Main Stream media are supposed to be a cut above the Social media, ibig pong sabihin, they should be professional and not compete with the chismosos and chismosas, because in the end, it blows up in their faces...
